The most critical time for your puppies to be exposed to social situations is the first 3-4 months of their lives. During this time puppies should be introduced to as many new people and safe enviroments as possible. Doing this will decrease the rest of the puppy development behaviour problems later in life including fear, avoidance and even aggression. Now a great way to get started to socializing your puppy is to involve in puppy classes. Puppy classes will provide your dog with important life lessons and training plus exposure of other puppies and people. Your dog will learn how to interact with other people and dogs in a safe environment, that provides fun and learning. Also ask your friends if you could bring your puppy over to their home from time to time. Having your puppy meet all kind of people in different enviroments will be great for his social development. Try to include as much variety as possible such as men, children, seniors, teenagers as well ass people with hats, sunglasses, coats, those on bikes, roller blades and more. Most everyone love to pet and play with puppies. So use that to your advantage. You can even ask your friends to hand feed your puppy some of his daily meals. However if your puppy is fearful dont force him. Instead give him some space by continue to offer him treats just for hanging out. Remember even after 3 months of age continue introducing your dog to as many as new people places and learning experience as you can, to help you achieve a social pup that you will be proud of.
