Tips on how to get started in wild birding. http://www.petco.com
One of the exciting things about feeding wild birds is that you have the opportunity to bring the sights and sounds of nature right up close to your backyard. To do that and to get started, the best thing to do is to go to the store and buy a good feed and feeder combination, and bring it home and place it near your house, either on a patio, or a deck, on a shepherd's hook, or on a pole-- it really doesn't matter-- and start by sprinkling food on the ground around the feeder. And as birds come in and fly overhead and see the food on the ground, they'll come in to check it out. In that process, they will find your feeder and start coming to eat there. As those birds start eating there, other birds flying over or in your area will start eating there as well. And before you know it, you'll have a flock of birds coming to your backyard and you'll have the sights and sounds of these birds right in your own backyard environment.
